Dehradun is home to the UPES School of Law, a private school founded in 2007. The University Grants Commission (UGC) recognizes that it is one of the constituent schools of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). This university has been accredited with a “B” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Furthermore, several national or international bodies accredit or verify the program, including the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), International Association of Universities, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and others. Our unmatched pedagogy, carefully designed curriculum, and innovative teaching styles prepare students for rewarding careers in law. Having a moot court in-house is an experiential learning activity that is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

At present, it offers seven undergraduate programs, master’s programs and PhD programs in the area of law. It is the first Indian university to partner with UK-based university The University of Law, for legal studies. UPES offers regular courses, faculty & student exchanges, online modules, research collaboration and collaborative seminars through The University of Law, UK. The organization also organizes workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, and moot courts so students can gain real-world experience. UPES also offers students the opportunity to study abroad. In UPES’ study abroad programme, a number of students are sent to partner universities in foreign countries for four weeks. It also offers a variety of collaboration and collaboration-based programmes with top organizations, including IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Tata Power, Xebia, Infosys, Bosch, and Cisco . It operates from UPES’ main campus in Dehradun at present. On the campus, students have access to all basic facilities, such as classrooms, labs, auditoriums, halls, computer centers, moot courts, hostels, and many others.

Admissions to the School of Law, UPES

There are currently seven different programmes offered at the School, namely BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, BSc LLB, BTech, LLM and PhD, grouped under various specializations. There is an entrance requirement for all of these programs. Through UPES’s official website, the admission process for School of Law can be conducted online. To apply for a particular program, candidates who meet the eligibility criteria need to fill out an application form. Courses to be considered for admission to the UPES School of Law are as follows:

UG Courses

  • CLAT/ LSAT/ULSAT scores are required for admission to BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, and BSc LLB programs
  • To be admitted to the BTech program, you must score a valid UPESEAT/JEE Main rating
  • Upon completion of their 12th-grade education from an accredited board, candidates may apply for UG programs
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) are used for selection. Candidates are selected based on their HSC and GDPI scores.

PG Course

  • The ULSAT is used to determine admission to the LLM program
  • To apply for the LLM program, a candidate must hold a graduation degree in the relevant field
  • Graduation scores and GDPI scores are used to select students

PhD Course

  • Researchers applying for PhDs must take a Research Entrance Test (RET) administered by UPES
  • Master’s degree holders may apply for PhD study if they have passed a recognised university examination
  • On the basis of their RET scores and their performance in PI, candidates are shortlisted

UPES Scholarships for School of Law

UPES offers scholarships through its central level. Depending on their marks, candidates may be able to get a tuition fee waiver up to 100%. UPES Scholarship details are listed below.

Students with BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB or BSc LLB degrees are eligible for the following scholarships:

The following scholarships are also awarded to LLB students:

  • Scholarships awarded on the basis of performance in Classes 10 and 12: These scholarships are awarded to students who achieve a high score in their class. Students with 75% in both classes can apply for this scholarship.
  • Uttarakhand State Board scholarships for high achievers: This scholarship is provided to students who have achieved an aggregate of 80% in both class 10 and 12 with PCM. This scholarship will be awarded to 150 top scorers. Tuition fees for male students and female students will be waived by 25 and 35 percent respectively in the first year.

The following scholarships are available to students of the BTech (CSE in Cyberlaw) degree program:

Scholarships are available to those in the 10th and 12th percentiles of CSE (Cyber Law). The tuition fee will be waived for students who pass classes 10 and 12 with an average of 75%.

The following scholarships are also available to BTech students:

The first-semester tuition fee waiver is 50% for students who have obtained a cumulative 80% in Class 10 and 12 with PCM in CBSE/ ICSE/State Examination Boards. There will be a limit of 10% of seats available for such scholarships in each BTech specialization.

The Uttarakhand State Board Toppers Scholarship offers a 25% tuition fee waiver for boys and a 35% tuition fee waiver for girls, regardless of their specialization. Each student will receive a scholarship.

LLM scholarship:

According to the percentiles achieved in Class 10, Class 12, and graduation, LLM students are granted a scholarship. For the first semester, tuition fee waivers of 50% are offered to students who achieved a 75% aggregate in Class 10, Class 12, and graduation.
