CAT 2022

CAT 2022 Cut Off has been announced by several IIMs. The outcome was announced on January 3, 2022. On December 8, 2021, the answer key and candidate responses were revealed. The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national level admission test administered by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Ahmedabad. Qualified students will be admitted to various PG Management programmes provided by IIMs around the country through this test. Aside from IIMs, students can use their CAT 2022 results to gain admission to several PG Management Programs at both public and private universities. We have shared all of the information candidates need to know regarding CAT Admission 2022 in this post.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2022 for MBA admission 2023 at all 20 IIMs is set for November 27, 2022, the month’s final Sunday. The CAT 2022 registration procedure will begin in the first week of August and will last for more than 45 days at iimcat.ac.in. Every year, one of the top six IIMs conducts the CAT test via rotation. IIM Ahmedabad hosted the CAT last year, and IIM Bangalore will host the CAT 2022.

CAT gurus and toppers believe that the CAT is not a tough test, but it does require some clever and timely study to pass with a good score. As such, instead of stuffing the brains with extensive knowledge-based preparation, the requirement is to follow a smart IQ-based preparation. Every year, around 2 lakh applicants register for and apply for the CAT. Last year, around 2.30 lakh people applied for the CAT 2021 test, and 1.92 lakh individuals took it. Although the IIMs have yet to release the CAT 2022 Exam Dates, the exam is expected to take place on November 27, 2022.

XAT Score vs Percentile

XAT 2024 exam date is set and the students will be able to give the exam on January 7, 2024 and as expected the XAT result is out by the 3rd week of January 2024.

However, before heading into the article you can check your XAT score Vs percentile 2024 for top XAT accepting B-schools in India. At a score of 35-37 marks, XAT offers a high percentile of 95-98. This is also the cut-off for the PGDM-BM and PGDM-HRM programs at XLRI. To find out which colleges accept XAT scores for MBA admissions in 2024, read this article.

There is a big difference between XAT percentile and percentage. 99 percent in XAT, for instance, means that you scored 99% of the total marks, i.e. 76 (only VALR, DM, and QADI sections are considered). The 99 percentile in XAT, on the other hand, means that your score exceeds that of 99% of other test-takers.

If, for example, you achieved the highest score of 45 on the XAT 2024, your percentile is 100. While 45 does not represent 100% of the total marks, it is more than every other candidate, leading to a 100 percentile.

Scores of 40+ are sufficient for a 99+%ile on the 2024 XAT, based on XAT scores vs percentiles of the last two years. The likelihood of your admission to XLRI Jamshedpur’s PGDM HRM or BM programs is very high with this score. It is predicted that XAT 2024 scores will range between 30+ and 35+ in order to achieve 90+ percentiles or 95+ percentiles, respectively. The top MBA colleges like XIMB, IMT Ghaziabad, KJ Somaiya, and others accept students with a 95+ percentile in XAT.

XAT Score vs Percentile 2024

Below are the expected XAT 2024 sectional and overall scores vs percentiles according to expert analysis. The XAT2024 predictions are based on the analysis of 3 factors:

  • Last 3 years’ score vs percentile trends combined with the statistics of those years.
  • Increase in the number of registered test-takers this year by 40%
  • High competition level expectation this year

XAT Scorecard 2022 does not feature a XAT Score and instead provides XAT Percentage and XAT Percentile. The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) test comprises 75 questions in total, which are counted to calculate the merit-based percentile and are separated into three portions. Candidates find it difficult to get more than 30-32 points out of a possible 75, and very few students pass the XAT exam with a score of 34-35. The difficulty level, as well as the reduced number of questions, result in a high percentile at low XAT exam results.

GK & Essay Sections: Not counted for Percentile Calculation

Out of 101 questions, 100 are MCQs and one is a descriptive essay writing question. The first 25 questions in the GK segment of the XAT test are not considered in the computation of the XAT percentile.

The XAT 2022 exam pattern is expected to be moderate to difficult, with low or similar cut offs as in previous years.

Furthermore, the return of the Essay Writing Test into the test has resulted in a combination of MCQs and descriptive question paper with a slightly expanded time restriction of 3 hours and 10 minutes with 101 questions, up from 100 questions in 3 hours previously.

How to calculate the XAT Percentile?

A percentile for XAT 2023 is calculated on the score scaled for every category in where questions will be posed as well as the overall score. The scorecard for XAT resulting from XAT will indicate the total and the sectional score as well as the XAT percentiles of candidates.

Let’s look at an example to understand how XAT percentiles are calculated? Here’s an example for how to calculate the Verbal and Logical Ability section percentile calculation.

Step 1. The first step is to determine the total number of applicants (N) who are eligible in the XAT entrance test during the two sessions i.e. Shift 1 as well as Shift 2 in the morning session.

Step 2: Give a ranking (r) to all applicants who are taking the XAT according to the score from the Verbal and Logical Ability section.

Step 3. Determine the score of the percentile (P) for the applicant that has the highest scoring (r) within section 3.2. Verbal and Logical Ability section

Step 4: Next you can round up the calculated percentile score of a candidate (b) not more than the decimal mark of two. For instance, all percentile points that are greater the threshold of 89.995 percent are then rounded up to 90 percent.

Examining every topic that will be covered in the CAT Syllabus will assist each hopeful to create your own personal list of weaknesses and strengths, and consequently create a study plan to prepare for CAT 2022.

Syllabus for CAT VARC

The syllabus of VARC for CAT 2022 is likely to include 3 main subjects:

  • Read Comprehension: This is likely to comprise around 70% of the overall VARC score. The RCs could be on a range of topics, ranging from the abstract, to science-related.
  • Para Jumbles: The two kinds of Para jumbles that are typically used during the CAT Exam are elements of the CAT Syllabus. Para jumbles in general are multi-choice. While the subjective para jumbles are the ones where the answer must be completed.
  • Para Summary: While there are other subjects that have been examined during the CAT Exam The Para summary is tested frequently throughout the year and, as such, is an unchangeable component in the CAT Syllabus.

CAT-DILR Syllabus

It is the DILR Syllabus that is for CAT 2022 that can be described as the one that is most not defined in comparison to other sections of the CAT Syllabus. Two sub-sections in the DILR Syllabus are

  • Data Interpretation The data will appear in the shape of a chart, graph, or some other form of visualization. You must solve the questions using the data provided.
  • Logical Reasoning You may be presented with information in a non-structured way and you could be asked to organize it in order to derive the result to answer the questions asked.

In the graph The number of questions that are asked in sections DI and LR sections is generally evenly divided, meaning that students who feel more at ease in one of the sub-sections still have the chance to pass the cut-off when they attempt this part of the CAT 2022 paper well. The CAT DILR Section has changed a little in the last few times. The questions consist of DI and LR instead of the traditional distinct DI and questions for LR that were used in the past.

The CAT QA Syllabus

The CAT QA Syllabus has the largest portion as it covers everything students learn up to the level of Class 12. The major subjects that are covered in the CAT Syllabus for QA are

  • Arithmetic It covers the largest amount of questions on the majority of CAT Exams which is a subject that all students must prepare for.
  • Algebra is one of the topics that has the second-highest weightage in terms of the types of questions during the CAT Exam.
  • Numerics This is a set of topics that are often assessed during the CAT Exam and all aspirants must be aware of the fundamentals of these topics so that they do not miss easily marks.
  • Geometry: This is yet another subject that is regularly tested which consists of Geometry, Coordinate Geometry, and Mensuration. Knowing a fundamental understanding of the subject will enable candidates to attempt at least some questions on the topic during the CAT 2022 Exam.

CAT Exam Pattern 2022

Candidates must be familiar with the CAT test format as well as the CAT syllabus 2022 before beginning their preparation for the exam. In 2021, the CAT test design was altered, and the number of questions was cut from 76 to 66. The most crucial things to remember are:

  1. The CAT exam is administered online.
  2. Each question is worth three points.
  3. For incorrect attempts, a minus one mark is deducted.

How to Prepare for CAT VARC, DILR and QA

Preparing for the CAT exam that is based on the syllabus that is official will ensure that you get top marks in the test. Candidates who want to take the CAT examinations must develop plans for their preparation based upon their understanding of the subjects that are covered in the CAT syllabus. A lot of Quantitative Aptitude subjects are ones that are taught in schools and the same is true in the case of English Grammar. The first step to do in order to prepare for the CAT is to create the list of subjects that are familiar – generally familiar, familiar but not at all familiar. In the next step, begin to study new topics first, and then progress to more familiar and then to more familiar subjects. Check out some tips for section-wise preparing for the CAT are given below:

How to Prepare for CAT VARC

  • VARC preparation should begin in the beginning of CAT preparation, and specifically Reading Comprehension practice
  • Review the VARC syllabus for CAT. Then review all the Grammar regulations and the definitions
  • Find an English dictionary as well as books on word meanings to discover new phrases and words
  • RC is the dominant VARC section, so it is crucial to get into the habit of speed-reading. This can be accomplished through reading novels, books magazines, or even data-heavy reports.
  • The most effective source for preparation for Verbal Ability is sample questions. Answer a wide range and many Verbal Ability questions to master it.

How to Prepare for CAT DILR

  • The DILR section in the CAT is dedicated to the tables Graphs series, charts and Tables
  • This part requires calculation ability as well as an keen eye for particulars
  • 24 of the questions can be divided equally between DI and LR. Therefore, you must work on both
  • Note Tables of as large as 20, Square, Square Roots, Cube, Cube Roots and other mathematical values that you can quickly calculate and read
  • Try as many practice questions and mock tests for sectional sections as you can since there isn’t a formula that can be remembered.
  • The greater your experience in the speed of reading charts and tables increase your chance of scoring highly in DILR section of the CAT

How to Prepare for CAT QA

  • The Quantitative Aptitude section of the CAT is about conceptual clarity and practical application.
  • Take a look at each section in the syllabus for CAT to achieve conceptual clarity. Try to answer a few questions in order to check if you’ve comprehended the concept correctly or not.
  • Begin to practice the full length and sectional mock tests only after having completed the syllabus
  • Split practice sessions into three categories: moderate, easy and high. Start with easy questions and then move on to moderately difficult questions, before moving to more difficult questions.
  • You should be able to time yourself as you solve questions. You should be able to answer each one at minimum three times. The first goal is to grasp the problem the second is to figure it out with 100 percent accuracy, and the final step is to complete the task with 100% speed and accuracy.
  • Develop the ability of mental calculation in order to reduce time spent during the CAT test.

In Conclusion

Due to the fact that CAT does occasionally surprise applicants, there is no CAT Syllabus that is expressly posted on the CAT Official Website. However, because the CAT Exam measures applicants’ mastery of the fundamentals, every question in the exam is solvable. As a result, every applicant should ensure that they are comprehensive in their preparation for the fundamentals. If the applicant follows the CAT curriculum, the chances of unpleasant shocks are considerably minimized.

CAT Score vs Percentile: What is CAT Percentile?

CAT Score VS Percentile

Common Admission Test or CAT is among the most well-known MBA entrance exams in the United States and demands no introduction. The CAT test is held once a year to get into the best B-Schools in the United States. When discussing the CAT exam, the term is commonly used is the CAT Percentile. Let’s look at the meaning of a percentile. A percentile is a representation of your performance in comparison to other test taking participants. For example 90th percentile means your score higher than the 90% of test participants. The higher the percentile , the higher.

The CAT percentile vs marks 2021 of marks are distinct parameters that play a crucial aspect in the qualification for the CAT test. A CAT’s score will be assessed by marks from CAT, whereas the CAT Percentile represents the total percentage of applicants who scored less than or equivalent to the candidate’s score. That brings us to the issue of when IM Bangalore will release the CAT 2022 results on January 4, 2023 , at 5 pm. It is available for download check your credentials, then determine your score in relation to the percentile. The raw score of your CAT exam is transformed into a percentile after taking a variety of elements into consideration when calculating score normalization. To let you know what percentile you earned with your raw CAT Score, MBA Universe.com shares below CAT Score vs. Percentile method and slot numbers calculated by professionals as well as the top MBAs on various CATs to help you get admission to colleges. This article explains the method of the calculation of percentile range and CAT score vs . percentile as well as other data.

CAT 2021 Score Vs Percentile: What is CAT Percentile?

The CAT percentile is referred to as the total percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to a particular candidate. For example, if a candidate’s CAT percentile is 99, it means his/her performance was better than 99 per cent of the total CAT test takers that year. Or one can say, candidates scoring above 90 percentile would be the top 10 per cent of the students that year.

Suppose, 1,000 people take an exam and you bag the top rank, which means 999 candidates scored less than you. Then your CAT percentile will be 999/1000*100= 99.9.

Thus, CAT percentile does not refer to the actual performance in the CAT exam, but refers to a particular candidate’s performance in comparison to all the test takers.

CAT Score vs Percentile

For a management CAT aspirant, who intends to get admission in top MBA Colleges like IIMs and Non IIM B-schools has to understand that the CAT score he gets in the exam will be the basis of the percentile, which indicates his rank or score in comparison to the rest of the students who sat for the CAT entrance.

Before we get deep into the slot-wise CAT Score Vs. Percentile conversion process Let us look at the CAT score vs. percentile for 99 95, 90 and 85 and 95 percentile for CAT 2022:

How Much Do You Need to Score in CAT to Get a 99%ile?

Looking at the trend over the previous several years, we can see that an overall 99th percentile was obtained with a score ranging from 99 to 153. This simply indicates that you must complete 45 to 50 percent of the paper correctly in order to be in the top 1%. But don’t forget that passing the CAT test also necessitates passing the sectional cut-offs.

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

The VARC portion, as the name implies, covers Reading Comprehension as well as aspects of Verbal Ability such as Para Jumbles, Para Summary, and Find Odd Sentence Out. In CAT 2021, there were a total of 24 questions in this section, 16 of which were from RC passages and the remaining 8 from VA.

To get the 99th percentile in this area, you must correctly answer about 17 questions. If VARC is not your strong suit, your goal should be to obtain 12 to 15 problems correct with practice. This will easily rank you in the 90+ percentile, and you may increase your score by focusing on your strengths.Show 102550100 entriesSearch:

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)

In recent years, this portion has caused anxiety among test takers. When you compare the scores, you’ll notice that you need to score comparatively lower here to reach the 99th percentile. You only need 8 to 10 accurate answers to join the 90th percentile club, and the 99th percentile club is not far away.

This section contains eight sets. The sets are data-based reasoning tasks that need data and logical thinking skills. To do well in this segment, you must have a solid approach and avoid panic in the event of a difficult DILR section.Show 102550100 entriesSearch:

Quantitative Aptitude

The difficulty level that is required for the Quantitative Aptitude exam is widely varied in the CAT. To perform effectively in this section in addition to the information and experience, students require concentration.

They must be able determine the difficulty level of the subject and pay attention to the number of times. If the test is difficult then you must prioritize accuracy. If it is not difficult, then you should prioritize speed.

As you will see in the below data in this year’s CAT when the test was simple the required raw score for the 99th percentile shot up to 78. Similar to CAT 2018 where the test was difficult and difficult, it was reached with 51 raw scores.

If you see Quant as your enemy The goal for you should be to answer at least 17-20 questions correct in the test. Keep in mind that you’re working with Quant here, not Math which means that the goal can be achieved with just a little practice.Show 102550100 entriesSearch:

CAT Score Vs Percentile Calculation: Detailed Process

Before arriving at an appropriate percentage, IIMs must equal and normalize the CAT results overall exam sessions. If there are extra CAT exam slots available, IIMs must normalize CAT scores for all sessions based on the difficulty level of each session. Because CAT 2022 is divided into three slots, the raw CAT score will be converted to a percentile after normalizing the scores of all three slots according to on their difficulty level.

Another important factor in converting CAT scores to percentiles is the number of applicants who have taken all of the CAT sessions. The percentile will change depending on the number of exam participants.

6.1 CAT Score Vs Percentile: 3 Key Components

After getting a picture of the CAT 2022 question paper and marking scheme, you should know what are the key components at each stage of the CAT score Vs percentile conversion process as shared below

CAT Marking Scheme Vs Percentile Score

Raw Marks in CAT ExamScaled Score in CAT ExamCAT Percentile Score
3 Marks for each right answerIIMs are conducting CAT 2022 in three Slots.

CAT question paper difficulty Levels in the three Slots differ

IIMs use Score Equating and Normalization process for all the slots on the basis of different sets of test papers

The scaled score is arrived on the basis of this normalization process

CAT Scaled score is usually more than your raw CAT marks but it may remain below your raw CAT marks
Percentile Score in CAT is the total percentage of the candidates who score equal to or less than the candidate in question.

CAT percentile is related to relative performance of the candidate in CAT exam and not the actual performance

Thus, the candidates scoring 80 percentile & above refer to the candidates who are top 20% CAT test takers
-1 Mark for each wrong answer (only for MCQs)
Maximum marks in CAT 2022: 198
You can check your CAT marks with the CAT answer keys released by IIMs with the help of above calculation

Note that it’s not just the overall CAT score and percentile however, it is also the section-wise score and the required minimum percentile that is crucial to get past the sectional cutoffs in IIMs. Not just those 20 IIMs but other top B-schools, like FMS Delhi, SPJIMR, MDI, and IITs, accept the CAT percentile score when shortlisting, and will also give an amount of weightage to the CAT score during the final selection. It is worth noting that the CAT scorecard does not show your CAT score vs percentile, but only the scaled CAT score vs percentile are listed in your CAT score card. Find out more here about what you need to know about CAT Scaled Score as well as the percentile conversion procedure.

Score of CAT vs Percentile for a CAT aspirant in the management field who wants to gain admission to the top MBA schools such as IIMs and non IIM B-schools, it is important to realize that the score he scores during the test will form the basis for the percentile, which is a measure of his score or rank against the other students who took the entrance exam for the CAT.

The term “percentile” in CAT refers to a number in which a certain percent of scores fall under the specified number. If we take the example of an CAT student who scores 90 percentile. It signifies you’ve got 90% students who took the CAT exam been less successful than the student. Furthermore, students who score 90 percent in CAT or higher indicates they’re within the top 10% of all students who took the CAT Exam.

Percentile Score Calculation

The calculation of the percentile score of an applicant:

The steps below are used to calculate the CAT’s total and sectional

percentile scores achieved by the candidate. To illustrate the process of calculating percentile scores the QA section is used to illustrate. The same process is used for the total percentile score calculation, and also for the two other segments, i.e. VARC and DILR in CAT.

Step 1: Calculate the total number of candidates (N) who appeared for CAT (i.e. including morning, afternoon and evening sessions).

Step 2: Assign a rank (r), based on the scaled scores obtained in the QA section, to all candidates who appeared for CAT. In the case of two or more candidates obtaining identical scaled scores in the QA section, assign identical ranks to all those candidates.

As an illustration suppose exactly two candidates obtain the highest scaled score in the QA section, then both of those candidates are assigned a rank of 1. Moreover, the candidate(s) obtaining the second highest scaled score in the QA section are assigned a rank of 3 and so on.

Step 3: Calculate the percentile score (P) of a candidate with rank (r) in the QA section as: ? = (?−?) / ? × 100

Step 4: Round off the calculated percentile score (P) of a candidate up to two decimal points. For example, all percentile scores greater than or equal to 99.995 are rounded off to 100, all percentile scores greater than or equal to 99.985 but strictly less than 99.995 are rounded off to 99.99 and so on.

A methodology similar to the one described above is used for the computation of the

overall CAT percentile scores and for the percentile scores of other sections.

The score that is calculated at the conclusion is known in the form of the per centile. It is calculated to seven decimal points to eliminate ties and rank ambiguity.

In addition the percentile score of the candidate is calculated after the the normalisation procedure based on scores of each subject, which includes Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Candidates who score the top marks will be awarded with a 100 percentile score, which is the ideal scenario.

The detailed process with examples to prepare for JEE Main 2020 Normalisation is described here.

  • Candidates with higher percentile scores in Mathematics might be considered to be higher-ranked.
  • Candidates who score higher than the percentile in Physics could get the top ranking

Candidates with higher percentile scores in Chemistry is awarded a higher rank.
