JEE is one of the anniversaries that engineering candidates need to crack to seek admission into their desired course. JEE Main and Advanced are at the national-level admission exams that offer access gates to the top engineering universities in India. JEE Main is the foremost exam that is controlled by government-supported technical universities such as NITs and IIITs while the JEE-Advanced exam is chiefly administered by IITs and the candidates should clear JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced.

JEE Main and JEE Advanced are related to each other and are interrelated, however, they differ in many aspects. JEE Main 2021 April and May sessions were postponed, new dates were released. JEE Advanced 2021 was scheduled for July 3, nevertheless, IIT Kharagpur is investigating the changed exam date 2021. Check JEE Main Exam Dates

Both JEE Main and Advanced are inter-connected with each other, but their opposition cannot be ignored. It is very essential for the candidates to know the difference between these examinations. Difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced

There are multiple differences between JEE Main 2020 and JEE Advanced 2020. Some of the primary differences are mentioned below:

Courses:

JEE Main is held for providing admission into B. Tech or BE courses programs in various NITs & other Universities all over the country. JEE Advanced is the criteria to get admission in the well-known Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Eligibility:

For JEE Main, there is no such prescribed percentage to appear for the examination. But for access admission to the NITs, IIITs & CFTIs, applicants must obtain a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST students) in the qualifying exam or need to be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th examination administered by respective boards. Applicants, who pass in 12th exams in 2018 or 2019 are exclusively suitable to apply for this exam.

Mode of Examination:

JEE Main Paper consists of two papers: Paper 1 & Paper 2. Paper 1 (B.Tech/BE) is conducted through an online (Computer Based Examination) mode. While Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) is organized through offline (Pen and Paper based examination) mode only.

JEE Advanced Examination consists of two papers: Paper 1 & Paper 2. JEE Advanced exam is held through online (Computer Based Examination) mode only. Students have to appear in both the Paper 1 & Paper 2 exams for admission in the engineering courses. Students who wish to get admission into B. Arch programme which is offered by the IITs, they have to pass both Papers 1 & 2 and then apply for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). AAT is conducted by the seven zonal IITs. Students can apply for the AAT exam after qualifying for the JEE Advanced Exam.

Paper Type

The JEE Main Question Paper (Paper 1) has multiple-choice questions covering the subjects: Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. On the other hand, JEE Advanced Paper 1 & 2 have objective type questions from the same subjects.

Syllabus

The syllabus of both the exams is also different. The JEE Main syllabus comprises of Class 11th and 12th Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. While in JEE Advanced, few extra topics are to be covered in the exam.

Admission:
