Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is PGDM better than MBA?

Ans. MBA is an old version for those wishing to pursue management studies, a two-year diploma course PGDM, Post Graduate Diploma in Management sounds better. Generally, the PGDM course is far more industry-relevant and practical as far as the job market is concerned.

2. Is MBA same as PGDM?

Ans. The first and basic difference between the two programs is that the MBA is a Degree program whereas a PGDM is a diploma program. A PGDM program is offered by AICTE recognized b-schools and standalone/autonomous b-schools, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), which do not come under the UGC.

3. Is DRC a good college?

Ans. Yes the college has almost all the facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms and a library. The infrastructure of DRC is average, but DRC has the best hostel facilities.

4. Does PGDM have value?

Ans. In India, as well as overseas, both MBA and PGDM courses are regarded as having equal value when it comes to career prospects. Having a PG diploma instead of a degree is certainly not considered to be a drawback.

5. Which is better PGP or PGDM?

Ans. While PGDM is a diploma, PGP translates into Post Graduate Program and provides you with merely a certificate of completion. Such quick knowledge may not require the broader umbrella of PGDM. A PGP course from a top college is more than sufficient.

Internship Program During the Summer

After completing the first year, all students are obliged to participate in an 8 to 12-week Summer Internship Program. This allows them to have practical experience with management ideas and functional abilities. This method of ‘Learning by Doing’ allows students to apply the rigour of theory to the practical world. The students work on tasks that the firm assigns to them while undergoing SIP. Students must present a report to the firm and the institute after their summer internship, which is overseen by a corporate executive and a faculty mentor. The Institute usually receives feedback on the student’s performance from the concerned corporate executive. At IMI New Delhi, successful completion of the Summer Internship Program is a prerequisite for receiving a Post-Graduate Diploma.

Pedagogy

Faculty members at IMI New Delhi have the academic freedom to use whichever pedagogy they choose to provide instruction in their courses. Lectures, case discussions, presentations, assignments, and project work are typically used in pedagogy. The emphasis is on interactive and participatory learning approaches. All of the programs’ faculty members are largely from the Institute, but they may also include adjunct or visiting faculty members. Industry practitioners give guest lectures regularly to educate students about the current business environment and practices.

Timetable for courses

Classes for the PGDM program begin at 9 a.m. every day and might extend until late evening hours, including weekends, depending on the program’s needs. Each lesson will last 90 minutes. It is required that you attend all of your classes. Classes are expected to commence in the second or third week of June 2020.

Applicants should be aware that just meeting the minimum qualifying requirements or receiving a recommendation from the sponsoring institution does not guarantee that they will be considered for shortlisting or selection by IMI.

Placement

While IMI will give all feasible inputs and assistance to students to help them become industry-ready, it is ultimately up to them to do well both academically and in recruiter selection procedures.

IMI is responsible for providing all feasible and essential inputs and assistance to the students to ensure that they are industry-ready. Similarly, IMI would do everything possible to bring a large number of recruiters to school on a best-efforts basis. Nonetheless, it is ultimately the responsibility of students to do well both academically and in recruiter screening procedures to be placed. Candidates who have been sponsored by their employers are not eligible to participate in the institute’s placement procedure.

Curriculum for the EXPGDM

The program would include cutting-edge coursework that takes into account current trends in management theory, practice, and applications. Students would be studying 28 full-credit courses in credit point equivalent terms (of 3 credit points each). In addition, all students must do a field project on their selected topic and submit a report to the institution during the last trimester. The completion of the project within the time frame required for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management is a requirement (Executive).

Pedagogy

Due to the nature of management courses, various faculty members will employ a variety of pedagogical tactics, including case studies/caselets, role plays, group activities, simulation exercises, lectures, MOOCs, participatory learning techniques, and so on. In addition, through events, guest lectures, and workshops/seminars, IMI facilitates many encounters with industry specialists. Additionally, it would allow students to work on ‘live projects’ of various organizations on a best-efforts basis. IMI would also organize seminars to help students improve their grooming, presentation, and communication skills. Overall, the goal is to provide great exposure and learning opportunities for pupils.

Evaluation

Quizzes, case presentations, assignments, surprise exams, project submissions, and term examinations would all be part of the evaluation process. This would imply that children would be required to strain and achieve well academically regularly. For student evaluation, IMI, like other reputable management institutions in India and worldwide, adopts a relative grading system. Grades would be issued in a course using a 10-point scale based on a student’s relative standing to his or her peers rather than the absolute mark obtained.
